“Nasi and Mee” which Translates to “Rice and Noodles denotes the staple food being Rice and Noodles in most of the places in Asia. after a successful Run at Bangalore, Nasi and Mee Opened Its 2nd Asian Canteen at Nungambakkam,chennai. knk road being a food hub these days with the no. of new food joints and now having this Pan Asian Restaurant adds to the one stop Street for High end Restaurant, Kiosk , Multi cuisine to Regional Food Joints.
Menu There is a lot of options to choose from, if you’re vegetarian don’t worry they have plenty of options too .The Malay selections from the menu are truly irresistible with its cross-cuisine combinations, distinctive sambal-spiced dishes and creamy coconut milk stews and bound to win a number of die-hard fans.
Ambience Pretty Black Box! the quirky wall painting of a lady posing with chopstick and Noodle bowl is the stunner corner which adds touch of the street dining experience, pretty bright led lights throughout the floor yet it has this dim lit surrounding, a mocktail bar at the corner and the service station next to that. the huge glass window will give you the glimpse of the knk street. there are 2 and 4 seater to sofas which accommodate large groups. but this place is packed so book your tables!
Myself and my Blogger friends Tasted the dishes from the curated Menu which had the best of Nasi and Mee.
DRINKS – Iced Milo & ABC
Who doesn’t love Milo? Everyone’s Childhood favourite. It was exciting to see Milo in the menu, crushed ice blended with Milo was super thick and more than an energy drink.
ABC is Apple, Beetroot and carrot blended Healthy Juice. It was Rich and Colourful.
Prawn Har Gow
Plump and juicy is what I can describe the Dumplings. Chunks of shrimp barely visible through translucent dough with a unique shape are what you need to order here. This Is a Traditional yet a Classic dish.
Delicate dough filled with hot flavoured soup, this could be a Good option for soup bowl since it’s small and gives the same equal taste as a soup. the flavours burst out when you take the momo and bite it, it is good to be eaten when served hot.
SOUP – Chicken Winter Melon Soup
The chicken broth was thick and with chicken shreds, the flavour of earthy shiitake mushrooms and winter melon was subtle, on the whole a Flavoursome Soup.
Chatuchak Chicken Wings
It was served Piping Hot and by the looks of it I thought it’s a usual Chicken wings but when I took the First Bite there was something else inside the wings, it’s stuffed with few ingredients which was filling and Delicious.
This was Everyone’s Favourite. Purely made in Indonesian style with Lemon grass and Spicy chilli sauce, these have been rubbed on the Big Prawns and then Skewered. This dish is a perfect Balance between sweet prawns and fiery sambal.
Malaysian Chicken Satay
I’m glad that it was not the usual Peanut sauce and chicken satay; the chicken cubes were marinated in Spices, Garlic and shallots then grilled to perfection. The chicken was full of wonderful South East Asian aromatics. The accompaniments are often met with surprise, but provided to be dipped in the sauce to give refreshing respite from the richly marinated morsels of satay meat.
NASI AND MEE
It is a Lovely Thick Gravy with Big cut Potatoes, mushrooms and well cooked chicken Chunks. A dish which is Traditional and has a whole lot of flavours to it, the combination of palm sugar and Fermented Soy bean sauce added a wonderful texture to the gravy.
STEAMED FISH CANTONESE STYLE
Sea bass Fish Fillet Steamed with ginger, chilli, spring onion and lightly bathed in a specially mixed light soy sauce. The fish was tender and has a delicate texture. Loved the simple flavour of the whole dish, tried it without Rice and it still tasted perfect to me but ideally meant to be eaten with white rice.
BOK CHOY, TOFU AND SHIITAKE STIR-FRY
A vegetarian delight, the flavour of Bok Choy mellows beautifully with earthy shiitake mushrooms and the cubes of extra firm tofu which has been fried golden and soaked in soy sauce complements the dish.
Chilli Flakes, Grounded peanuts, Sugar and Lime wedges were perfectly placed across the plate while the stir fried flat rice noodles with shallots and spring onions beautifully placed in the middle. Less oily and a fair veg option.
My favourite dessert for the evening, it is a traditional and a popular dessert from Southeast Asia, The Flavour of Thick coconut Milk, Texture of Green Jelly and Palm sugar was a great combination. Overall Rich, Creamy and Delicious!
Boiling To down :
There are Many Pan asian Restaurants in Chennai and what makes Nasi and Mee stands out is the well-chosen menu, pricing and the cool ambience. Most of the dishes are street foods inspired from the streets of Asia and are Traditional. Nasi and Mee will be homebound for a lot of people who are staying away from home and a different dining experience for the people like me.
